The Suez Canal is an artificial double-passage waterway in Egypt, with a length of 193.3 km and connecting the Mediterranean and the Red seas. . The canal was opened in 1869 with a solemn ceremony and with a huge budget. The 1967 war caused the closure of the Suez Canal for more than 8 years, until President Sadat reopened it in June 1975, after the disengagement between Egypt and Israel and the cease-fire within the events of the October War. After that, the canal witnessed several projects to expand its course and reduce its transit time, which began in 1980.
