The Suez Canal is an artificial double-passage waterway in Egypt, with a length of 193.3 km and connecting the Mediterranean and the Red seas. . The canal was opened in 1869 with a solemn ceremony and with a huge budget. The 1967 war caused the closure of the Suez Canal for more than 8 years, until President Sadat reopened it in June 1975, after the disengagement between Egypt and Israel and the cease-fire within the events of the October War. After that, the canal witnessed several projects to expand its course and reduce its transit time, which began in 1980. The most recent of which was on August 6, 2015 with the inauguration of the new Suez Canal project. The Suez Canal is one of the most important seaways in the world.
